Drug use in Islamabad on the rise, claims capital police

The antinarcotics division seems to be helpless as druse in Islamabad, Pakistan, is on a rise. The Islamic Republic’s capital, which is home to over a million residents, has seen over 3,500 drugs-related cases registered in the past four years.

According to the police, a substantial number of university, college, and even school going students are taking different kinds of drugs.

The Federal Government has been claiming for a long time about their mission to eradicate drugs from the federal capital.

Interior Minister of State Shehryar Afridi says that drug mafias are playing with the dignity of Pakistan and future of helpless Pakistanis.

“We will launch an exhaustive crackdown against them,” he added while talking at an event in Islamabad.

The police reports have shown that  Tarnol, Bhara Kahu and Aabpara vicinities of Islamabad are centers for drug dealers.

Inspector General Islamabad Police Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan says that the police have got leads regarding the involvement of some students who supply drugs into educational institutions

“We are also working on an awareness programme for the youth. We will head to other institutions to collaborate with us for the programme,” he said.
