Avatar: The way of water trailer takes you into a surreal underwater world

A new trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water came out last week, taking fans back to the world of the blue-skinned Na’vi for the first time since 2009. The full Avatar 2 trailer follows the release of a teaser trailer in May, which received 25 million views in five months

The long-awaited sequel to the biggest film in history is arriving on December, 16.

The trailer released on Wednesday gives us a new look at the visually stunning underwater world that director James Cameron created for his sequel, as well as hints at the trials Jake Sully, Neytiri, and their family face.

Cameron shot many sequences underwater with specially designed cameras.

The new trailer for Avatar: The Way of Water includes a slew of gorgeous new images from the film that show how important Pandora’s oceans and aquatic life will be to the story of how Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaa) started a family in the years following the first Avatar

Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaa, Stephen Lang, CCH Pounder, and Giovanni Ribisi are among those repeating their roles from the original film. Worthington plays Jake Sully, who left his human body to marry Saldaa’s Neytiri and live on Pandora with her.

The film’s final length is unknown, but it is expected to be longer than three hours. In May, Cameron told Empire: “I don’t want anyone complaining about length while binge-watching [television] for eight hours… It’s fine to get up and pee.”

Cameron will also direct more films in the Avatar universe, beginning with The Seed Bearer in 2024 and continuing with a fourth and fifth film in 2026 and 2028, respectively.
